Laguna Coast Wilderness Park Events and Programs

Interpretive Hikes:
Bring the family and join our Laguna Greenbelt Docents for fun and exploration in our riparian woodlands and fragrant coastal sage-scrub. Learn about the diverse animal and plant habitat that makes our Southern California wilderness a world treasure. Hikers are asked to wear sturdy walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen and carry at least one liter of water per person. Binoculars and cameras are also recommended. Donations to Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. accepted for all guided hikes, $2 per hiker.

The Laurel Canyon Loop Hike departs every Saturday at 8 am from the Willow Canyon HQ and staging area. The Laurel Loop is a 3 ½ mile moderately strenuous hike up Laurel Canyon’s specially protected California Ecological Reserve along a dry streambed and beautiful oak groves. See an earthquake fault, scallop fossils, and a hawk’s nest. At the top, views from windswept Bommer Ridge of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Please call for reservations: 2-3 hours, approximately 3.5 miles, moderately strenuous.

The Emerald Canyon Loop Hike departs on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 7:30 am from the Willow Canyon HQ staging area. Travel up-canyon to windswept ocean views of Catalina Island from Bommer Ridge where raptors soar. Continue down the steep trail to the bottom of Emerald Canyon into a pristine streamside woodland with a seasonal waterfall. Please call for reservations: 3-5 hours, approximately 5-8 miles, moderately strenuous.
Sunday, July 13th and Sunday, August 10th at 7:30 am

Full Moon Hikes depart on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 6 pm from the Willow Canyon HQ staging area. In the cool of the evening many of our wildest venture out into the moonshadow for a nocturnal sojourn. Please call for reservations: 2-3 hours, approximately 2.5 miles, moderately strenuous. Bring small flashlight.
Saturday July 12th and Saturday August 9th

Sunset hikes depart on the 2nd Friday of every month at 6 pm from the Willow Canyon staging area. On clear days our brilliant ocean sunsets are spectacular. Ever see a “green flash”? Please call for reservations: 2-3 hours, approximately 2.5 miles, moderately strenuous.
Friday July 11th and Friday August 8th
